Getting The Look For Less
My name is David Cashman, I run a men's fashion and lifestyle blog called Dapper Dave Cash. I am delighted to be asked by Aidan to guest blog on the Avalanche blog. Like I said I run a men's fashion and lifestyle blog. I started the blog as an outlet for me to talk about all things fashion and to offer the modern man advice about the latest styles on the high street. I would consider myself an advocate for affordable fashion. I am always on the look-out for getting the look for less. So I am going to show you guys how and where to get some stylish looks for less to suit twenty-something year old men out there!
Look One | The Casual Look
I am going to start with something casual. Even though it is still summer here in Ireland you have to be prepared for all types of weather. So here is an outfit that is casual but still has a lot of smart elements to it (maybe swap the trainers for a pair of brogues and you will get in anywhere).
I have always been a huge fan of cardigans as I feel they are a really versatile piece to any stylish man's wardrobe. This navy cardigan from NEXT is a steal at 35 euros. I am a big fan of knitwear from NEXT as I find there price ranges really affordable and the quality of the products are second to none.
Next up (no pun intended) is this white polo shirt from River Island. I love the difference in texture all over the polo shirt. The ribbed texture contrasting with the black zip on the front makes it a real statement piece. For 34 euros again is very reasonable as it is an item that will go with almost everything in your wardrobe.
I find a good pair of dark jeans in a slim fit go with absolutely anything and they smarten up any outfit. I have headed to NEXT again for this item. I know it looks biased but I find the quality of their items is fantastic considering some of their price points really reasonable. Again at 30 euro it is hard to go wrong. I personally own a lot of items from NEXT from previous years and I still have a lot of them and they have shown none or very little sign of wear and tear.
Finally to the footwear! I know I mentioned earlier that this outfit will take you most places even though it was a casual outfit. There is a lot to be said for the classic white trainer and it's hard not to see why it is so popular. There are so many variations available but this pair from ASOS retailing at 34.25 euros. They are so simple in design that it is the perfect piece to this simple but stylish outfit.
The total outfit comes in at 133.25 euros. Yes there is cheaper if you go looking but I am showing you quality items that are interchangeable with other outfits because they are so versatile. So for that price I think you have 4 quality pieces that will last you for many years.
Look Two | The Smart Look
Now I am going to bring you a smart look which is great for any night out, day at the races, family events etc. Where can you go wrong?? Again all of these items are versatile so they can be mixed and matched with many other items in your wardrobe.
First up we have the classic navy blazer. A definite staple in any man's wardrobe. This an item that should be considered an investment and buy the best you can afford. I know not everyone can do that so this blazer from Mango fits the bill perfectly. At 59.95 it is a steal for such a classic piece. One tip I would give is to spend the extra 20-30 getting your blazer tailored to you. I say this because you could buy a blazer in Penneys and have it tailored to your liking and you will look much better than buying a really expensive one that doesn't fit you properly. It's all in the details my friends. I would add a pocket square to the blazer to add a touch of class. Any colour or design suits a navy blazer so I will leave that decision up to you. They are available in most high street stores nationwide.
Again we have another classic piece the white oxford shirt. Where would any man be without it? This oxford shirt is a snip at 25. Where could you go wrong??
Now to the trousers. While dark slim jeans work well here also I felt that I would go for chinos as they are that bit smarter and look just as good. This slim fit tan chino from NEXT come in at 30 again. They also come in a straight and skinny fit but I find slim looks the best but if you aren't comfortable with that I would recommend the straight fit.
Finally we come to the footwear again. I have gone with another wardrobe staple the tan brogue. These guys will also serve you for years if they are looked after properly. These brogues from Burton Menswear are a steal at 60 and also look the part.
The total outfit comes in at 174.95. Again like I said earlier there are cheaper options but I feel these are some of the best options available at a low price. They are also so versatile that they will work with most things you own and can be worn almost anywhere.
