Championship in August feels a bit strange and could well take a few years to get used to but what feels oddly familiar, regardless of the time of year, is the championship text. The text that was always coming from our club secretary Michael Hussey once the final whistle blew on Friday, 22 July in Austin Stack Park. After a 5 year absence from the Neilus Flynn decider, I was happy to get the Championship text to be honest.
Droughts in Kerry football dominated your feeds with a while? We have a drought much closer to home.
"Well horse, back looking for something again😂"- Michael Hussey.
It is a running joke Michael and I have because contrary to what people might think (mostly from what we put out on our social media etc), this is the first occasion that we have actually been asked to sponsor the club directly, every other time, it has been us approaching the club secretary (Michael) with an offer of sponsorship.
No self-respecting GAA Runaí is going to look a gift horse in the mouth, but to his credit Michael has always been happy to let us have our fun with it.
It is fantastic to see how the community has come together as usual when a championship week rolls around and it is a credit to everyone working in the club, the players, selectors, trainers, and everyone involved from top to bottom.
Alongside the headline sponsors: Centra Ballyduff & Avalanche, there are a host of fantastic local businesses who have all contributed to ensure that our senior panel look their best for the big day on Sunday.
Lowes Bar, Connors Bar, Cara Credit Union, Noel Power, McHales Bar & Sheds, Tomaísins & Duffer Tyres are just some of the other local businesses who have put their money where their mouths are and I would implore those reading to back your local businesses where you can, these are the people who turn up for occasions like this.
Our minor panel will also be receiving some training gear, just a pity it could not be in place for their county final last week, the turnaround from providers just proved too tight with the introduction of the shortened season.
At Avalanche, we are incredibly proud to be sponsoring Ballyduff as they hunt for a record equalling 26th win in the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship, best of luck to Garry O’ Brien, his management team, Daniel O’ Carroll, the club captain, and everyone involved in the entire campaign.
No doubt you will do us proud come Sunday & I look forward to the championship text for many more years to come.
Tá na buachaillí ó Ballyduff i gcónaí ann..
Aidan out.
